During meditation, these incense sticks can be burned, so that their scent accompanies the turning in, the immersion in one's own mind in a pleasant way.

In Buddhist temples, one also uses the sticks for prayer. The incense sticks are burned and then alternately moved from the head to the chest during prayer or thanksgiving. Thereupon they are put into a container filled up with sand, in order to burn out there.
